Put on All Your Armor: Your Enemy
Do you have enemies? I don’t-at least I would like to think I don’t. I try to live in peace with everybody.
But that pleasant little plan has one major flaw-the Prince of Darkness, Satan himself, hates me and he hates you too. It is his prime goal to destroy you and me, body and soul. That means we’re at war, and we will be as long as we live. It’s an enemy whom we can’t see and we can’t kill. The Bible calls him a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
St. Paul wrote, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12). That’s the bad news. Those rulers, authorities, and powers are Satan and his demons. The good news is that God has not left you alone to fight Satan by yourself. He gave his Son, Jesus Christ, to break Satan’s terrible power once and for all by dying for you on a cross.
Your enemy has already been defeated. Now the battle is to keep him from dragging you down into hell with him.
