Satan’s Lies; God’s Truth: Lie #7--You Can Make Up Your Own Rules What would you think of an NFL team that insisted its offense needed to gain only five yards for a first down or that its touchdowns should count as nine points? You’d say it’s dreaming and it’s in for a bitter surprise when it has to play a real game. Satan wants to encourage people to make up their own religion. He lies to them and says, “Go ahead-make up your own rules of right and wrong.” Since the root cause of all sin is man’s desire to be God, it is flattering and gratifying to set up one’s own personal moral system. Here’s the truth: God has made very clear his expectations for all human behavior, and those expectations are written for us in the Bible. The Bible says in Revelation 22:18,19, “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city (i.e., heaven).” Yes, there is absolute truth, universally applicable to all. Yes, that information is available to all in the Bible.
