The Jesus Bible Reading PlanNäide

INHERITANCE
At the culmination of the book of Numbers, God’s people were given a detailed description of where God was leading them after all the years of wandering. There they received the inheritance that God had promised and had been faithful to fulfill. God’s people throughout the Bible are promised such an inheritance. Unlike the children of Israel, however, Christians do not receive an inheritance because of a national identity but because of an adoption effected through the blood of the Son of God (Col 1:12). Because of the gift of Jesus, the Father qualifies believers to participate in an inheritance that they could never deserve. In addition, unlike the children of Israel, the church does not receive an earthly inheritance of tangible significance. The earthly inheritance is found in the hope, joy and peace that comes through knowing they have a right relationship with God and a secure eternal destiny. The church is granted a heavenly and eternal inheritance — Jesus Christ himself.
Jesus, I have wandered aimlessly. Thank you for not forgetting me, not giving up on me. Thank you for adopting me into God’s family. Amen.
