Through the Bible: 1 PeterSample
His Deep Love
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:7-8 (ESV)
In these 2 verses, Peter told us that the end is near, therefore we have to be self-controlled and sober-minded at all times. He also reminded us that we are to put love above all others. This is a love that covers a multitude of sins. It is a very deep love which Christ Jesus gave to all of us. This love will keep our eyes focused on Him even when things fall apart. This love empowers us to forgive others even if others do us wrong. He doesn’t want us to keep it to ourselves, but He expects us to pass it on. Therefore, as Christians, we need to preach this good news to as many pre-believers as possible.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to be clear minded and self-controlled at all times. Help me to let Your deep love flow to others, that I may be ready to forgive. Help us to preach this good news to all the pre-believers so that they can enjoy Your deep love as well. We pray all these in Your mighty name, Amen!
About this Plan
Written to the Christians scattered in different places who are facing injustice and persecutions as their faith is at odds with the surrounding cultures, Apostle Peter encourages readers to remain a holy people, submitting to authority, repaying evil with good, serving one another as a church. Strangely enough, this letter is a timely wake-up call for Christians who are living in an age filled with frustration, rage, and disappointment.
