Year of the Bible: Part Five of Twelve

DAY 22 OF 30

Waiting Patiently for a Timely Answer

David was probably about eighteen or nineteen years old at the time of his combat with Goliath. He became king when he was 30 years old.

In these ten years, he could have given up and walked away from God and His plan. During this time, he had many hardships and opposition regarding what God had appointed him to do. However, he remained loyal to the One who had called him to be king. He did not succumb to despair but continually placed his hope in the Lord.

We can often feel like everyone is against us and that God's promises will never come to pass. We can even believe that the time has passed for what God had promised and that, according to others or our own insecurities, we will never qualify.

David was able to unify Israel, fulfill what God had appointed him to do, and occupy the land of the Jebusites. They had been occupying the territory God had promised Israel for over 400 years. Not only did David place his hope in God, but he also patiently waited for God to accomplish what he had promised.

Question: What is your response when time, circumstances, and people all seem to be against what God has promised?

Prayer: I trust in you, O Lord; My times are in Your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors! Make Your face shine on me; save me in Your steadfast love! Let me not be put to shame, for I believe in You. How great is the goodness You have stored up for those who love You and those who take refuge in You! Amen!
