Year of the Bible: Part Five of Twelve

DAY 27 OF 30

A King is Born

As we wrap up the journey through 1 and 2 Samuel, we need to look at the big picture of God's actions. These books contain stories of tragedy, romance, and sin and demonstrate God's power to work through all circumstances. God promises to bring a king who will reign and rule forever.

Today, you read about the birth of King Solomon and David conquering yet another enemy. After failure, David turned to the Lord, counting on His faithful forgiveness and trusting in the relationship he had cultivated with God.

We should never forget that God always responds to a humble heart. David's heart sought the things in God's heart and prized and prioritized the things God cared about. Solomon and the kings in David's line were mere mortal men, some pleasing to God, others not, until the coming of the promised One. And in all this, God worked His plan until the "Son of David, The Anointed One" appeared and took His rightful place as King of Kings.

Question: How involved do you believe God is in your daily life?

Prayer: Your life is small and short but not insignificant. Ask God for increased perspective to trust Him and the outworking of His plans in your life, family, and community. Ask Him to surprise you with His loyalty and to teach you to prioritize your relationship with Him over everything else.
