Meeting With God in the MorningSample

Meeting With God in the Morning

DAY 5 OF 5

Why should we spend time with God?

For no other reason than he invites us. God wants to be with us. God could make anything in all creation do His bidding. He can turn over stones, move mountains and calm storms. Yet, that isn’t what He wants. He wants a personal love from His children. He wants us to come, sit, and worship Him.

The Lord invites us, all who are burdened, to find rest. Jesus praised Mary in scripture for sitting at His feet and that’s exactly what he wants from us. From an outpouring of love should come a desire to be with God. My prayer is we can echo the words of the Psalmist in chapter 42. “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my souls for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

I hope we feel these words along with the Psalmist and they drive us to rise to meet God. Out of compassion God invites us. He says, “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; hand he who has no money, come, buy, and eat.” Jesus invites us in the New Testament, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6). He is the only way and Jesus invites us to accept His offer.

We have the privilege to seek our living God everyday. God is not limited by time. We can approach his throne day or night. This week I’ve argued we need to seek God when we rise so we are aware of His presence, blessings, and the responsibilities we have as His Children.

But, do not be mistaken. God’s invitation is for you at anytime. My prayer is that as you rise to meet Jesus you’ll experience the benefits of seeking Him first. Meeting with God in the morning is a practice developed by habit. John Brandon writes about developing habits in his new book, and it’s my hope and prayer that we use the tools and specific patterns he’s developed to make your morning with God a priority.

I’m remined of song lyrics that say, “In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.” Let us answer the invitation to be with God and surrender ourselves before Him.

“May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Eph. 3:17-19).
