Meeting With God in the Morning

DAY 2 OF 5

There is a story of a boy being dropped off at school each day and His mom would say, “Be a missionary, not a mission field,” as he was getting out of his car.

Maybe that boy rolled his eyes after hearing those words each day, but that story has stuck with me. My job and yours is to be a missionary. To be a missionary we must be standing firm in our faith.

Each day we have the opportunity to reach out to others and stand firm against temptation. Meeting with God in the morning is like equipping and training ourselves in righteousness for the task we are called. Would we send soldiers to battle without training? Certainly not. Are soldiers equipped with what they need for any variety of situations? Yes! Is walking out the door in the morning without anchoring ourselves in Truth helping to prepare us for the day? No. Are we better to reach out to others and resist the devil when we’ve prepared for battle? Yes.

Peter tells us to be watchful and vigilant because Satan is prowling like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. There is constantly a war going on that you cannot see. Good and evil are in a battle for your soul. You might not sense a sword hovering close each day. Satan is sneakier than that.

Brother Lawrence writes in his book Practicing His Presence, “There is no way to escape the dangers which abound in life without the actual and continual help of the presence of the Lord. Let us then, pray to Him for it continually.”

Every feeling of fear, insecurity, and hopelessness is not from God. Those thoughts are from Satan as he tries to bring enough doubt into your life to steer you away from The Lord.

Meeting with God in the morning prepares you for a battle. When you spend time with God you receive His word and become strengthened in Him. All scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching and training in righteousness. We must be in His word and in tune with his guidance in order to be prepared for the events to come.

Ephesians describes putting on the full armor of God. This is the armor God provides for us as we fulfill our days on earth. When we spend time with God, He is generous with us. His word penetrates our hearts and minds and we can stand firm against the devil’s schemes.

God armors us with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Holy Spirit so we can fend off the devil. Before we begin our day God is willing to give us what we need to stand firm if only we come before him.
