Day 8: Low becomes high

Think about:

Imagine when Gideon heard God tell him that his army was too big. The Midianites and Amalekites armies were so large that the Bible says it would be easier to count the grains of sand at the beach! Have you ever tried to do that? God was telling Gideon to send men home. He went from having 32000 men to only 300! Imagine being the 300 men left over. They probably thought Gideon was crazy and that they were all going to lose and be defeated by the enemy. But Gideon trusted God, listened to Him and took His advice, even when he still felt scared (see verses 9-15). Because Gideon listened to God and obeyed Him, he won an amazing victory and God was glorified in it all.

There are going to be times in our life when winning the victory seems impossible- the numbers are stacked against us and we seem too small, young or weak to win. It is in those times that God can do something absolutely amazing! With a small number, and very little else, He can do miracles and change an entire situation. When we let God win the victory for us even if it seems impossible, we let Him do incredible things in our own lives and in the lives of others.

What now?

How can you be like Gideon?

Maybe you are facing an impossible battle. Maybe there doesn’t seem to be any hope or solution to a problem in your life. Maybe you feel like you are the least important and weakest person right now (see how Gideon felt in Chapter 6 and verse 15). This is the time to ask God to help you. Ask God to take over and give you the help that you need. You might not know how He will help you straight away- in fact it might seem like there are even less things going in your favour, just like Gideon’s army got smaller and smaller. But trust Him and let your heart be humble. Don’t try and figure it out on your own. Let God in.

Give Him your heart and say, “I’m all yours God. Speak to me. Teach me. Help me live the way You want. And help me in my hard times now.”
