What Is Easter All About?Sample
… But We Didn’t Get the Savior We Expected
The prophets had been telling God’s people that a savior was coming. Not just Isaiah. There were many other prophets whose words are written in the Old Testament of the Bible. They told people how the savior was coming. Where He would be born. How He would live, die, and even come back to life!
People heard the details you read from the book of Isaiah yesterday, like how the savior would be a man of sorrow and suffering. But, somehow, people focused more on their own ideas of what the savior of the world would be like. What do you think of when you hear “savior of the world”? You probably think about what everyone else was expecting! Watch this video to see more about what people were looking for.
See? Even though it was predicted that Jesus would be born in a tiny town in Judea, people still thought nothing good could really come from there. God likes to surprise us! He loves to show us what He can do with a small start and an obedient heart.
Today, you’ll read how Jesus came to earth and was born among barn animals. You’ll read how He predicted His own death. And you’ll read how He even predicted He would come back to life.
Jesus called Himself the Son of Man and also said that God was His Father. His followers saw Him do miracles. Even though He wasn’t flashy, He was real. He knew and understood people better than anyone they had ever seen. He was full of truth, but also full of grace. His followers couldn’t help but see His miracles were amazing, but many of them still weren’t completely sure Jesus was everything He said He was. And then, on a Friday, they saw Him suffer and die on the cross while people mocked Him openly. Dead. Gone. Was that it? Would the leaders come for them and kill them just like they killed Jesus? They were afraid. They huddled together behind locked doors, trying to stay safe.
Did they dare keep hope alive that maybe, just maybe, Easter Sunday really was coming? Jesus would come back to life? The world would be different forever?
Ask yourself: What would someone have to do to convince you that they were the Son of God? If you were alive when Jesus was alive, what would you need to see to know that He really was who He said He was?
Pray: Jesus, thank You for being kind, gentle, and humble. You are exactly the savior this world needs. Thank You for paying the price for everyone’s sins, even though it was painful and cost You everything. Thank You for loving me that much. Help me to love You, too. In Jesus’ name, amen.
