Read To Me Daily Semester 4Sample
2CHRONICLES 9:
In yesterday’s reading in 2nd Chronicles we heard God’s famous response to Solomon, which is so often applied as a promise to America. But it is stretching it past the breaking point to apply that promise to America! First of all, our country does not have a personal relationship with God like that of Israel in Solomon’s time. We also skate over all the conditions of humbling ourselves, turning from wicked ways, and praying. And we are not in the position of having made corporate sacrifices to the Lord.
PROVERBS 28b:
Here is today’s highlighted verse from Proverbs:
Pro. 289:26 GNT It is foolish to follow your own opinions. Be safe, and follow the teachings of wiser people.
MATTHEW 11a:
Jesus’ instructions to the disciples in Matthew chapter 10 show that He wants total commitment— even if it means dying in his service.
Mat. 10:38 NLT If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.
Let’s pray.
Dear Lord Jesus, again You spoke of hell in yesterday’s chapter. We cannot claim to know You or claim to understand the Good News that we are to announce as your followers unless we understand what makes the Good News so good. That’s why we must understand about sin and hell. Our being your messengers and disciples will mean that we are hated, and the most grievous times will come when our own family members hate us. If the hairs on our heads are numbered, and if each of us are worth more than many sparrows, then we can know that You watch out for us in all that happens to us. Lord help us now to make the firm commitment to follow You no matter what. We will follow You even if they crucify us. We thank You that You don’t forget the things we do in your service, such as helping your messengers. But Lord, when we get to heaven and see the awesome glories there that we will share, nothing that we have done will seem of any value to us compared to all You have done for us. From the bottom of our hearts, we say Thank You.
