Take A Mission Trip To Your Workplace

DAY 8 OF 10

MISSION TRIP:  DAY FOUR

We’re over half-way through and have 2 days left in our short-term MISSION TRIP to your work.

Whether you’re focused on reaching one or more people, you might be wondering where the “MISSION” part of the trip is… after all, don’t missionaries spend their time preaching and teaching for the purpose of bringing converts to Christ?

Yes and no.

Let’s again go back to Jesus Christ himself. He spent most of his time just being with people – not always preaching and teaching – but also just being with them.

Of course, as he spent time with them, he also shared about the Kingdom of Heaven, how God loves them and what God expects. But that generally followed a time of relationship-building, getting to know the people he was with.

If you’ve been on a mission trip with your church, you already know that most of the time is spent helping people – not preaching!

Of course, just as Jesus taught those he spent time with, so too do those on a church mission trip bring the teachings of the Bible and the message of the gospel to those they serve - but typically only after first building relationship and helping them.

So far, we have been focused on building relationship with others. Just being friendly and spending time, as work allowed, with others.

Today, we want to bump up our MISSION TRIP activity – with additional focus on how we might serve those in our workplace or business mission field.

Jesus washed the dirty, smelly feet of his disciples – even Judas who betrayed him (see John 13:12-17). Now we want to do the same. Not washing feet of course, but finding a way – no matter how out of the ordinary – to serve others (see 1 Peter 4:10).

Again, each workplace, each situation, each individual is different, so it’s again not possible to just follow a formula. What’s needed is prayer and inspiration, followed by your obedience.

No surprise there, right?

So pray for how you might best serve your co-worker today. What can you do or give that would really help them?

Can you dedicate some of your own time to might help them with something related to their work?

Maybe it’s information or access to tools that you can provide which might help? Or just doing something to help them complete their work?

Alternatively, perhaps it’s you organizing others to somehow come alongside them to help?

Lastly – only if it’s appropriate, of course – maybe you know how you can serve them (or their family) on a personal level?

Everyone can be served in some way. Just as before, we will find the right way to help or serve if we lay this before God in our prayers – in the morning as well as all day long. And, like before, God will show us the way.

Remember, however, that as you help others, you still need to completely fulfill your own work obligations – even if that means staying a little longer or taking work home.

It may be a busy day, but it can be the most rewarding day of your entire 5-day adventure as well.

PRAYER

Lord, I am blessed to be known by You. I am blessed that Jesus came to earth and died and rose again for me. Now I pray that I may use the gifts and talents given me to serve my co-workers, in a way that reaches them and glorifies you. Amen

ACTIONS

Keep in touch with your prayer partner, and pray especially that your offer and action of service may be well-received. Praise God for any joyful responses!
