Love God Greatly: Words MatterSample
In this world, there's a time and a place for everything. And certainly, there is a time to be silent. This can be a hard lesson to learn, but a really valuable one. We need to learn to remain quiet and not respond to every single thing other people tell us.
There's a certain vulnerability in being silent that scares us sometimes. But the Bible is clear: there's a time to talk and there's a time to be silent. When you don't have anything to say, when there are things that are better left unsaid, when your opinion is not requested… it's better to remain silent than to hurt others or make them feel uncomfortable with your words.
James reminds us that we’re to be “quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” God has given us two ears and one mouth. We are supposed to use our ears two times more than our mouth! With words, less is more in most cases.
Proverbs 10:19 reminds us that, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Do you want to be counted as a wise, prudent woman? Then, learn to listen and to remain silent. It’s important to learn to speak in the appropriate moment and with the right words.
Heavenly Father, please help me learn when to speak and when to remain silent. Control my tongue and open my ears to listen to those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
