Sheep are not smart

Let me give you a scientific fact: sheep are dumb! They are adorable, they have helped mankind for thousands of years, and they are terrific…but they are also dumb. Without the help of a shepherd, sheep wouldn’t stand a chance in the wild. They are just slow-moving, dim-witted balls of cotton candy standing in a field waiting for any number of predators to come and make them their lunch. Understanding that basic biology sheds new light on the concept that God is like our shepherd. That is not to say we are dumb, necessarily, but simply that we desperately need God to guide and protect us the way a sheep needs a shepherd. As you read these Psalms that speak of how God cares for us like a shepherd does for His sheep, think of all the ways that God has provided and come to the rescue for you. Then in prayer, spend a little time thanking Him for each specific example that comes to mind.
