Draw Near - PositionMuestra
We read about heroes of our faith in the Old Testament who drew near to God in various ways. Before Jesus, people approached God quite differently than we do now. Instead of Church like we know it today, there was a Temple. The Temple was where God’s people would meet and where God dwelt. In the Temple, the High Priest would need to offer sacrifices, usually animals of different kinds, prepared in a special way. These sacrifices would demonstrate forgiveness or covering for sin and could only be offered by the High Priest. The inner part of the Temple, where God dwelt, was known as the Holy of Holies and a big curtain separated God’s presence from people. Only the High Priest could enter and only did so once a year, with great fear and reverence.
We, you and I, any person, not only a High Priest, can enter the most holy place, God’s presence, because of Jesus! Instead of the High Priest offering sacrifices for forgiveness of sin, Jesus, the Highest Priest Himself, offered His own life as the perfect sacrifice, once and for all.
Jesus is higher than any High Priest, and He opened the curtain that separated people from God’s presence. We can draw near to God through Jesus. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, His death, and resurrection, we are now positioned to boldly draw near and enter God’s presence.
