The Creator in You

DÍA 1 DE 5

What do you know about God? What is he like? You've probably heard that he is loving, good, and powerful. And he is definitely all of those things and more! But guess what? The first thing God wanted us to know about him is that he is creative.

It's right there in the first verse of the Bible. Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

I just wrote a picture book about this verse that starts like this: “In the very beginning, a long time ago, God created the world so that we would all know that He Himself is a working God, though you might think that sounds just a little bit odd.”

It is weird to think about God working, right? But that's what we see in Genesis!

And then, when God’s son Jesus came to earth, he worked as a carpenter, probably making things out of wood and rocks (see Mark 6:3). Jesus said, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working” (see John 5:17).

Wow! OK, so God works. But what does that mean for you and me? It means that work is a very good thing! You may hear grownups complain about their jobs or your friends whine about chores and homework, but if God works, we can know that work is good—even when it’s hard.

So whatever you do today—whether you paint a painting or help clean the house—do it with joy just like your heavenly Father!

Before God told us that he is loving and holy, he told us that he is creative! What does that mean for your kids’ schoolwork, chores, and future careers? It means that they can view those things with God-ordained purpose, enthusiasm, and joy! That’s my goal for your elementary school aged children as you lead them through this five-day devotional.
