Jim Carrey, Pink Floyd, Solomon, & the Gospel

DÍA 2 DE 4

Jim Carrey, PhDs, Pleasure, Possessions, and Popularity

In his humorous 2016 Golden Globe speech, Jim Carrey said:

I dream about being three-time Golden Globe winning actor Jim Carrey, because then I would be enough. It would finally be true. And I could stop this terrible search for what I know what ultimately won’t fulfill me. But these are important, these awards. . . .

Although humorous, Carrey is repeating what Solomon said thousands of years earlier. In today’s reading, notice how Solomon moves through many of the major categories of what we consider success: PhDs (or knowledge), Pleasure, Possessions, and Popularity ... and of course he finds them to be empty.

But why? As we will see tomorrow, it has to do with time.

So what does this have to do with the Gospel? We live in a world where we are surrounded by counterfeit Gospels that all express different forms of salvation. All of these by themselves will only leave us empty. We need good news that transcends our temporary existence.

One of the most frequent questions we receive is: “Will you please help me explain the Gospel to my teenager?” In this devotional, we journey with Solomon. He does a brilliant job of explaining our need for God and some good news! Axis.org serves 250,000 parents a month. Every week, we create The Culture Translator, a free email that helps parents have meaningful conversations with their teens.
