Love God Greatly: BeatitudesMuestra
Our hearts are not just sick, they are fundamentally broken. There is no band-aid big enough to patch our heart and soul back together. When faced with the reality of our sin, the only thing we can ask of God is for new creation. He promises to take the broken building blocks of His material creation—the world we live in and our hearts and bodies—and use them to create a new thing. More than reverting back to our prior condition before sin, God promises to redeem, to make new again.
David's cry here is of desperation—and he is right to be so deeply grieved! He has just sinned in two of the most destructive and grievous ways a human being can sin. He knows the depths of his depravity, and it draws him into a cry for redemption. When we face the sin in our own hearts and the brokenness in our world, it should lead to pleas like this one: for newness.
God, create in me a clean heart. Redeem my brokenness and make me into a new creation. Thank You for being faithful to the things and people You have made and desire to restore us!
