Love God Greatly: BeatitudesMuestra
Humans are excellent problem solvers. We love to roll up our sleeves and tackle a difficult situation with whatever tools are available to us: our minds, our money, our willpower. Yet when it comes to our spiritual status, there is no tool we can use to solve the problem. Even David, living under the sacrificial system of the old covenant, recognized that he could not fix himself. He was irredeemably sinful apart from God's grace, and the only sacrifice he could offer was a broken and repentant heart.
In the face of our sin, we can offer the same sacrifice: a spirit that recognizes its own brokenness and a heart that grieves its own sin. God promises to accept such sacrifices because He is faithful to redeem people who acknowledge their need for salvation. It is when we are confident in our own solutions and power that we miss the blessing of repentance and forgiveness.
God, I come to You with a broken and repentant heart. I have sinned against You today, and I acknowledge that I cannot fix my sin or save myself. Continue to heal and redeem my heart, as You have promised.
