Every Word, a Reader's 90-Day Guide to the Bible

DÍA 17 DE 90

  • God prepares the new generation of Israelites for life in the promised land. Deuteronomy means “second law.” Moses, knowing that he will not lead them into the land, is reiterating the law to this generation, making them ready to live as God’s people—holy and set apart.
  • Deuteronomy 6:4–5 is known as the Shema, part of a special Jewish prayer. Recognize that its emphasis is on love and relationship with God, not performance.
  • Understand that God gave the law so that unholy man might be able to approach a holy God. Keeping the law shapes a people to honor God and flourish. But the law cannot give a relationship with God. Mankind’s inability to keep the law perfectly shows why we need Jesus (Romans 3:19–28).
  • Do not miss why God is driving out the Canaanites. It’s not because Israel deserves it (Deuteronomy 9:4–6).
