Job 33

33
Elihu Addresses Job
1“Therefore, Job, I pray, hear my speeches,
and listen to all my words. # Job 13:6
2Behold, now I have opened my mouth; # Job 3:1
my tongue has spoken in my mouth.
3My words will be from the uprightness of my heart,
and my lips will utter knowledge clearly. # Job 27:4
4The Spirit of God has made me,
and the breath of the Almighty has given me life. # Ge 2:7; Job 32:8
5If you can answer me,
set your words in order before me; stand up.
6Surely I am before God like you;
I also am formed out of the clay. # Job 4:19
7Indeed, no dread of me will make you afraid, # Job 9:34
nor will my hand be heavy upon you. # Job 13:21
8“Surely you have spoken in my hearing,
and I have heard the sound of your words, saying,
9‘I am clean, without transgression; # Job 10:7
I am innocent, # Job 16:17 nor is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, He finds occasions against me,
He counts me for His enemy;
11He puts my feet in the stocks,
He watches all my paths.’ # Job 13:27; 31:4
12“Behold, in this you are not just.
I will answer you, that God is greater than man.
13Why do you strive against Him? # Job 40:2; Isa 45:9
For He does not give an accounting for any of His words.
14For God speaks once, yes twice, # Job 40:5; Ps 62:11
yet man does not perceive it.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, # Nu 12:6
when deep sleep falls upon men, # Job 4:13
in slumber on their beds,
16then He opens the ears of men, # Job 36:10, 15
and seals their instruction,
17that He might turn aside man from his purpose,
and conceal pride from man.
18He keeps back his soul from the pit,
and his life from perishing by the sword.
19“He is also chastened with pain on his bed,
and with strong pain in many of his bones, # Job 30:17
20so that his life abhors bread,
and his soul dainty food.
21His flesh is consumed away that it cannot be seen,
and his bones that were not seen stick out. # Job 19:20
22Yes, his soul draws near to the grave,
and his life to the executioners.
23If there is a messenger for him, # Mal 3:1
an interpreter, one among a thousand, # Ecc 7:28
to show to man what is right for him,
24then He is gracious to him, and says,
‘Deliver him from going down to the pit; # Job 33:18
I have found a ransom.’
25His flesh will be fresher than a child’s; # 2Ki 5:14
he will return to the days of his youth;
26he will pray to God, and He will be favorable unto him,
and he will see His face with joy, # Ps 50:15
for He will render unto man His righteousness.
27Then he looks at men and says,
‘I have sinned # 2Sa 12:13 and perverted what was right,
and it did not profit me.’ # Ro 6:21
28He will deliver his soul from going down to the pit,
and his life will see the light. # Job 3:9; 33:22
29“Behold, God works all these things, # Eph 1:11; Php 2:13
twice, three times with man,
30to bring back his soul from the pit,
to be enlightened with the light of the living. # Ps 56:13
31“Pay attention, Job, listen to me;
hold your peace, and I will speak.
32If you have anything to say, answer me;
speak, for I desire to justify you.
33If not, listen to me; # Ps 34:11 hold your peace,
and I will teach you wisdom.”
