OvercomingMuestra
Overcoming vs overwhelmed.
In the modern world, we seem to be exhausted, striving, and alone.
Is this the optimal human condition?
Lack of sleep.
Mental health tsunami.
Loneliness epidemic.
Is this a picture of the life we are meant to have in Christ?
It seems that instead of overcoming, we are overwhelmed by life. And I can totally relate to that.
Raising kids.
Trying to take care of my own health.
Providing financially.
Wanting to stay strong in my faith.
Sometimes, at the end of a week, simply surviving the challenges and chaos can feel like a victory.
However, when we follow Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit, we are destined to live a life that transcends simply feeling overwhelmed. We are overcomers.
The letter of 1 John has a lot to say about this.
We are told:
• We have overcome the wicked one. (1 John 2:13–14)
• He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
• For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. (1 John 5:4–5)
The key scripture that unlocks the entire meaning of the overcoming life is 1 John 5:5, which tells us that the people who overcome do so because they believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
Don’t resign yourself to living overwhelmed. With Jesus, through Jesus, and in Jesus, you are designed to overcome.
No matter what your emotions are telling you. Despite your obstacles. Amid your struggles. Right here and right now—you are an overcomer through the saving grace and power of Jesus.
