Victory through the cross.
Want to hear an awesome scripture?1 Corinthians 15:57: “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Don’t tame that scripture. Or rationalize it. Just accept it: I have victory through the Lord Jesus Christ!
Wow—I’m already feeling more confident about my outlook.
Did you notice that 1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us that our victory is a gift from God? Victory is not our morning routine, taking ice baths, or having the discipline to eliminate carbs from our diet (which I fail at constantly). Victory must mean more than small daily wins, as beneficial as they may be.
Jesus overcame sin, death, and the enemy on the cross. These are some big-ticket items!
That victory is given to us.
The Christian life has a starting point. That starting point is not our own ability, gifting, or efforts. Rather, it is the cross. We live from the victory of the cross.
The cross is not a partial victory. It’s a total victory. And while not every expression of that victory will be seen on this side of eternity, we must fully embrace the victory of the cross and live from that place.
Colossians 2:12–15 is a powerful description of the total triumph of the cross of Christ.
Yes, it is a theological truth. But it should set the very foundation for the most tangible, everyday areas of our lives. Spiritual victory should fuel us with confidence for victory in our human experience.
I am victorious in Christ. This has practical implications for my marriage, my mental health, my relationships, and the challenges I face every day.
I am an overcomer in Christ. That affects my self-talk, my posture, and my confidence.
How will you live differently because of the victory of the cross today?
