God's Imitators

DAY 13 OF 33

My anxious thoughts I don't think kids get enough credit for how much stuff they have going on in their lives. Do you worry about coming last in the race? Messing up the solo? Failing the test? Are you struggling with your friends? Maybe there's even bigger stuff. Are your grandparents sick? Are your parents divorcing? What if you are moving across the country or starting at a new school? Maybe you have worries so big that you haven't talked about them with anyone. Any of these can make you feel a little sick to your stomach, can't they? David felt a little sick to his stomach too; sometimes he couldn't even sleep at night because of all his worries. As king, he was in charge of an entire nation that was at war with its neighbors. Plus, his own children were super naughty and rebellious! Still, David knew where to find his peace. "Examine me, O God, and know my mind. Test me, and know my thoughts" (Psalm 139:23). Here’s the thing, even if you don’t ask him to examine you, God already knows every fear you have. When you ask him to examine you, you are asking him to find those hidden worries--and take them away! As you read the Bible, have family devotions, and pray to him, you are reminded that Jesus came to earth to forgive your anxious thoughts and bring you peace when you worry.
