Kingdom Impact

Kingdom impact is where the rubber meets the road – where our faith meets the world, and where real transformation happens. We see the principle of Kingdom impact playing out in Acts 19: the silversmiths of Ephesus realise their idol-making business is in jeopardy because the gospel is being preached. Paul’s tentmaking business had given him a platform for economic influence as well as spiritual authority, and God used him powerfully to disrupt the status quo in the Ephesian industry.

Note that this wasn’t just about Paul preaching the gospel; it was about his marketplace presence creating a direct Kingdom impact. His work in Ephesus led people to abandon their old ways, turn to God, and even publicly burn their sorcery books – a financial sacrifice that signalled a deep spiritual transformation. Like Paul, you have the potential to influence your environment – even to disrupt the status quo if your industry isn’t serving God’s purposes. Whatever position you hold or job you do, your presence in the marketplace can have a profound impact on those around you. Your integrity, work ethic, and godly character can shift the atmosphere of your workplace, creating opportunities for others to encounter the living God. So, think about how your coworkers experience you: Are you a non-anxious presence, an energiser, a motivator, a creative strategist, an aggressor, or a faultfinder?

Luke tells the story of how Jesus impacted the life of the infamous tax collector, Zacchaeus. This life-transforming encounter led Zacchaeus to repentance and restitution. Zacchaeus wasn’t impacted only by Jesus’ preaching but by Jesus’ presence in his life. If God has given you favour or opportunity to speak freely into the lives of certain employees or coworkers, don’t take lightly this incredible privilege to irrevocably change the trajectory of someone’s life.

Spend some time meditating on the truth that God’s anointing for Kingdom impact transcends your current position in life. Kingdom impact isn’t reserved for those with titles or resources. It’s about aligning yourself with God’s purposes and allowing His influence to flow through you, no matter where you are or what you do. It’s about your obedience to His calling and the sway and effect of your godly character. Perhaps you could ask God to show you His purposes for the business or industry you work in. Does your current role align with this vision? If not, what’s your next step? May you know that you’re a minister – not just a participant – in the marketplace. God has empowered you to be an example of His love and grace. You’re positioned to make a difference!
