Day 3: Don’t Try to Be Someone Else

A bird can’t swim like a fish, and a fish can’t fly like a bird. It’s not just impossible—it’s unnatural. The bird wasn’t designed to live underwater, nor was the fish created to navigate the clouds. Each was made for a specific purpose, and they lose their effectiveness when they operate outside of that design. Similarly, you'll always feel out of place when you try to live someone else’s life.

David’s moment with Saul’s armor is a powerful reminder of this Truth. Saul thought David needed the protection and strength of royal armor to fight Goliath, but David quickly realized it wasn’t for him. The armor was heavy, unfamiliar, and a poor fit for the battle God had prepared him to face. David’s strength didn’t come from looking like a warrior but from trusting in God’s design for his life.

David’s refusal to wear Saul’s armor highlights the importance of authenticity. Wearing what didn’t fit him would’ve been like a fish trying to fly. Sometimes, we find ourselves trying to wear someone else’s “armor.” Maybe it’s a career path, a personality trait, or even an expectation someone has placed on us. When we try to imitate others, we lose sight of the unique gifts and abilities God has given us. God didn’t call you to be anyone else—He called you to be you. Celebrate your unique gifts and trust that God has equipped you to fulfill your purpose.
