Peace No Matter WhatSample
Peace Even in the Battle
Every ancient soldier knew that stability, being able to stand firm, is one of the most important parts of victory in battle. But they didn’t accomplish that goal through fancy tennis shoes.
Instead, soldiers wore leather sandals that had something like small spikes attached to the soles. More similar to soccer cleats, these shoes allowed them to hold their ground when the enemy attacked.
Paul said, "For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared" (Eph. 6:15 NLT).
The peace that comes from the Good News is knowing we have been made right with God and he is on our side. “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Rom. 16:20 NLT). We don’t have to fight any attack or face any circumstance alone.
Victory isn’t up to us. We are simply told to obey and “stand firm” (Eph. 6:14 NIV). God will do it. He will deliver us. He will bring us through the battle. The peace we have with God means we can have peace within us regardless of what happens around us.
Oh, our knees may knock and our hands tremble. There will be tears and sweat and hard days. That’s okay. Peace is not simply an emotion. Instead, peace is a position we take of standing on who God is, what he has promised, and who he tells us we are no matter what happens.
Peace also isn't something we have to produce; it's a gift that we can ask God to give us even in the middle of our hardest battles.
God, you are my peace and the one who brings victory in my life. Amen.
When have you experienced God's peace in the middle of something hard?
