Day 4: Strength in Weakness:
By Day 4 of your fasting journey, you may feel physically and emotionally challenged. These moments of weakness are not obstacles—they are opportunities. When Paul asked God to remove the thorn in his side in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, he writes God’s response:
"But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians remind us that God’s grace meets us in our lowest points, turning our weakness into a display of His strength. Fasting allows us to let go of self-reliance and lean fully on His sufficiency.
Physically, your body is undergoing an important transformation. As glycogen stores deplete, your body begins breaking down fat for fuel, producing ketones. Glycogen, stored in your muscles and liver, is your body’s quick energy reserve. Once it’s gone, your body shifts to a more efficient energy source: fat. This transition can feel uncomfortable, but it is a natural and necessary part of the process. Spiritually, it mirrors the process of releasing old comforts to embrace God’s deeper provision.
As you reflect on this shift, consider how God is inviting you to let go of things that no longer serve you. Just as your body sheds its reliance on glycogen, fasting encourages you to shed habits, fears, or dependencies that may be holding you back. In their place, you discover the sustaining power of God’s strength and grace.
Fasting teaches us that we are not meant to carry life’s burdens alone. When we admit our need for God, we create space for Him to work. This fast is not about enduring hunger for its own sake but about using your vulnerability as a reminder of His faithfulness. Weakness is not a flaw—it’s an invitation for God’s power to rest upon you.
Close the day in prayer, surrendering your struggles and thanking God for His provision. Trust that He is using this time of fasting to refine you, strengthen you, and draw you closer to His purposes. In your weakness, you will find His strength.
