When I Feel I Am Not Good Enough

DAY 2 OF 9

When I Feel I'm Not Good Enough

The God of Jacob (2)

What disillusionment it is to discover our own weakness, brokenness, and sinfulness over the years. This can be confusing to many people and even driving them to despair, especially if we have repented and are filled with the Holy Spirit. And then, to our utter dismay, we still discover brokenness, weakness, and sinfulness in ourselves.

Look at Jacob and the God of Jacob. We read that God has been going after this man. God associates with this man. He's not embarrassed about him.

Again and again, we read in the Bible of the God of Jacob. God goes looking for him. When he flees from his brother, God goes with him. God reveals Himself to Jacob at Bethel as he lies sleeping at night. Years later, when he returns to his country, God begins wrestling with him one night at the Jabbok River without warning. This battle continues throughout the night until God asks Jacob, "What's your name?" Horrified and out of breath from all night's wrestling with God, he replied, "My name is Jacob, the imposter, the one that grabs the heel, the deceiver."

Then God said, "You will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have fought against God and against men, and you have sustained it end-to-end... He blessed Jacob there." The words end-out sustained mean to achieve victory. God changes Jacob's name and blesses him. Jacob's name was changed to Israel - then, at that moment, God blessed him.

And as we read further through the Bible, we read again and again of the God of Jacob. The same God also wants to be your God.
