Her Freedom Journey From Pornography: 6 Days of Ditching Lies and Embracing Truth

DAY 4 OF 6

Day 4: Satan’s Big Lie #3: You Can’t Trust God

Every day you are faced with a choice. Do you trust what feels good to you, or do you trust God? Eve faced this choice as she debated whether or not to take a bite out of the forbidden fruit. As Eve sank her teeth into that piece of fruit, she chose to believe in her heart: My way is better than God’s way.

Eve didn’t invent this thought on her own. Let’s take a look at how Satan suggested this mammoth lie.

Read Genesis 3:1-6.

Satan planted the thought that perhaps God was holding out on Eve. Rather than wanting what was good and right for His daughter, God was being vindictive, keeping the best for Himself. What happened next shows us that Eve fell for the lie.

Have you ever wondered if God is keeping something good from you? There are times when sex and pornography are pleasing to your eye and desirable.

You might believe: I know what I need better than God does.

Do you hear Satan’s whispers in these thoughts? Jesus told His disciples that life would be difficult. “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). Unfortunately, loneliness, sadness, rejection, and loss are part of living in a broken world. But Jesus followed this bad news with the good news, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Where do you think you will find the most comfort? Through watching porn, or running to Jesus? Satan will tell you time and time again that God’s promises are empty. Don’t believe him! You and I know from experience that in truth, the promises of porn and casual sex are empty.

You might believe: I’ve tried so hard to experience freedom. God should have taken this away by now.

We often feel angry at God for not taking away our pain and our struggle. In my healing journey, I would get frustrated thinking, “God just isn’t working fast enough.” As a result, I started believing the lie that I couldn’t trust God with this part of my story. A few times these thoughts caused me to give up pursuing freedom and instead run after my sinful desires. Anger toward God has caused many Christians to walk away from church and from their faith.

Our emotions are real. It’s okay to express our anger at God; He can handle it. We can be upset that we’ve struggled for so long. However, that is not the same thing as demanding God’s healing in our own time instead of trusting in His timeline.

About this Plan

Her Freedom Journey From Pornography: 6 Days of Ditching Lies and Embracing Truth

Beneath every sexual struggle is an undercurrent of lies. Lies might begin in your thoughts, but they don’t stay there. In time, they flow into your beliefs, emotions, and actions. Your freedom journey involves learning to discern the lies you believe about sexuality, about yourself, and about freedom and to confront those lies with the power of God’s truth.
