Vessel of Honor

DAY 5 OF 6

Fifth Day

In our foundational Scripture in the second book of Timothy, we see there are other things we can also pursue that accompany Righteousness. Things like Faith, Love, and Peace. When we pursue these things, we know we are on a path to becoming more Christ-like. As it is written in Galatians chapter 5, when we abide in Christ we develop characteristics called the Fruit of the Spirit. And along these nine Fruits, we can see that Peace, Love, and Faithfulness are mentioned there as well. We cannot be a Vessel of Honor if we do not pursue to be like Christ. We need to position ourselves to be Vessels for God, and not for the devil.

Faithfulness
In Luke 16:10 are the words of Jesus and He said that if we are faithful in the little, God will entrust us with more. We need to be faithful stewards of what God has given us. If God has entrusted you with something small like for example to share your food with a homeless person, then you prove to God that you can be trusted with enough food for two homeless people. The principle is that you are faithful in the little and you are being used as a Vessel of Honor. But if you disregard the needs of another, how then can you be used for honor? How then can God trust you with more?

Love
This is probably one of the most used words in our Christian language, and yet so few manage to express it properly. Jesus gave us a new Commandment in John 13:34-35. He said that when we display Love to others in the same measure as His Love towards us then people will know we belong to Him. When we love our enemies, our neighbors, and even ourselves, people will know that we are Vessels of Honor. The Selfless, Sacrificial Love that is described in 1 Corinthians 13 is the kind of Love that we need to pursue for the rest of our days. Love should always be our aim. Love should always be our motive. Love should always be our passion.

Peace
Peter wrote in his first epistle that we need to turn away from evil and do good; seek Peace and pursue it. (1 Peter 3:10-12). To pursue Peace in our walk with the Lord is essential. We will struggle to love others when we don’t walk in the Peace of the Lord. We will struggle to be faithful in what God has entrusted to us if we don’t carry Peace within us. We can’t be Vessels of Honor when we act outside of Peace.

When we look at our Scripture in 2 Timothy 2:22, we will see that Paul also mentions a very important point that will assist us in pursuing these characteristics. He says that we need to pursue these things with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

The Christian walk is not for lone rangers. Jesus never called His disciples on a lonely road. We should be in a community. A church with one member is not a church. The reason why this is so important is because the people that you surround yourself with will determine the way you view life. If you are not in Godly company then it is a matter of time before you conform to the world’s ways. Godly company brings comfort, guidance, support, and accountability. We have to pursue these characteristics with those who have the same goal of being set apart for God.
