Staying connected with other people is in our DNA. We get together at school, sporting events, and on the weekends. We connect through texting, social media, and FaceTime.
If we look at Acts, we see that gathering together is part of the first church’s DNA, too! As we see in Acts 2:42-47, the early Church centered around shared experiences like eating, praying, worshiping, and just living life together. As they did this, they grew in their faith and encouraged each other.
When we gather, we experience deeper encouragement and motivation in our faith. It also allows us to give the same support to others! The way we gather might look different from the early church, but its purpose in our faith journey is just as important now as it was thousands of years ago.
If you’ve ever failed a test, lost a game, or didn’t get the part in the school play, you know that having people to support you makes a huge difference. Church is a great place to encourage others and be encouraged yourself! Proverbs 27:17 says it best: “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” We grow stronger when we do life together.
