All That We Long For

Give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. PSALM 107:8-9 NKJV

Oftentimes we live with a feeling of longing. We might long for big things: a new job, a child, a mended relationship. But we also long for small things: that new shirt, iced coffee on a hot day, a new rug. Longing is a part of the human experience. How often are your longings met? Do you live with desire on a regular basis, or do you consistently land in a place of contentment and satisfaction? Scripture tells us that the Lord satisfies our souls’ longings. He fills our desires with something that lasts longer than a good cup of coffee. He is the satisfaction we long for, the food we hunger for, the water we thirst for. Trust that in Him you will find true satisfaction for your longings.

God, forgive me for so often longing for things that will not truly satisfy. I confess that often I am shortsighted and forget that only You truly fill me up. Please give me encounters with You that remind me of Your “wonderful works.” Remind me of Your love in everyday moments and draw me close to You. You are the giver of good gifts, the One who meets my needs, the provider of all I could ever ask for. Help me live in the reality of Your love today. Thank You for satisfying my every need. Amen.
