A Word in SeasonSample
Find Rest in The Word
Charles Spurgeon once said, “A tattered Bible is evidence of a life that is not.” Obviously, just because someone’s Bible is tattered does not mean their life is perfect or without challenges. But when our world is shaken, being in God’s Word changes us, renews our minds, and gives us a footing upon which we can not only stand but build firm lives.
Ephesians 5:26 and Romans 12:2 are good reminders of the importance of meditating on the Word to renew, refresh, and wash us clean from all the influences of the world around us. There really is a battle for our minds and hearts.
One of my spiritual fathers, the late Dr. Edwin Louis Cole, taught that sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is to pull away and rest. Sometimes, I just need to pull away from everything that is going on, all the needs and burdens that exist, and come into a place of rest and reflection where I can focus on Jesus and on hearing His Word.
Jesus modeled this lifestyle. Throughout His three and a half years of ministry on Earth, the Gospels tell us He often took time to get away by Himself and pray. The time spent with His Father gave Him the perspective, clarity, and resolve He needed to continue in the Father’s Purpose.
No matter what you are going through, take time to spend with the Lord and meditate on His Word for your life. Jesus invites you to come to Him for rest and refreshment. It’s so important that we regularly take time away from all the noise pollution around us to give our burdens over to the One who cares for us. Then, we receive His Perspective and Clarity so we have the energy and strength to pursue His Purpose for our lives.
There is Power in God’s Word; it produces life, brings forth an abundant harvest, and accomplishes everything God desires. Isaiah 55 declares that His Word will not return void, so we can have confidence in its effectiveness. The Word works. It does not come back void. It is our Word in season. It is the Word of Life!
Heavenly Father, I want to be a tangible expression of Your Love. Cleanse my mind with Your Word and teach me to pray Your Truth over my life and those around me. Amen.
