At Home In Zion
When David and his men took this small fortified city from the Jebusites, it became a lasting symbol for Israel, God’s protection and favour. This is the first time the word ‘Zion’ is used to describe it, but the word occurs over 150 times in Scripture, continuing into the book of Revelation. Those trying to reestablish the nation of Israel in the early half of the 20th Century were known as Zionists. If God had a ‘home’, it would be Zion.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I’m aware today that nowhere is the ‘promised land’ more focused than in the word Zion. You love the Jews in a special way; they are your ‘chosen people’. I pray for Jerusalem and Israel today. I pray for its peace and safety. I pray that those living there will recognize you as their Messiah. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
