The Importance of Remembering What God Has Done: 5 Day Bible Plan

DAY 5 OF 5

Day Five: Recognizing what God is doing now

We won’t be able to remember and reflect on what God has done for us unless we recognize his work in our lives when it occurs. I want to end this Bible plan with a funny incident from Acts that encourages me. In the story, we discover that even familiar Bible heroes were sometimes slow to recognize what God was up to.

King Herod was hunting down Christians and placing them in prison. His soldiers arrested Peter and jailed him. Peter and the embryonic church spent the night in prayer, yet when an angel appeared to Peter and released him, Peter thought he was dreaming. Finally, Peter came to his senses and was utterly shocked that he was a free man.

After this, Peter makes his way to a house where many people are gathered to pray for him. When he knocks on the door, a girl comes to open it, and she, too, is taken aback that Peter is outside. She is so shocked that she forgets to let him in and leaves him on the doorstep.

How easy it is to miss what God is doing, even when we are begging him to do something! My book, Come with Me to Kathmandu, contains many stories of how God is working in the lives of women today. I hope you can read it and it encourages you. If you have your own stories of God at work, I’d love to read them, too. I can be contacted on my website,www.dislocatedchristians.org. Let's build each other up so we will not forget the incredible work God is doing around the world.

Reflect: How is God working in your life? Whom can you encourage with your story?

Prayer: Lord God, I know you are at work today, and I long to recognize more of what you are doing in my life and the lives of those I know. Please open my eyes to your goodness, and in the future, when I feel discouraged, help me to recall these times. Amen.
