The Importance of Remembering What God Has Done: 5 Day Bible PlanSample
Day One: Moaning is easy
No one said life would be easy, and most of us assume that we would be happier if it were. Focusing on the negative things that happen to us takes little effort, and we needlessly compare ourselves with others. Wrongly, we assume everyone else is healthier, wealthier, and happier. Social media fuels our jealousy, and we often pour out our discontent to God.
The Israelites were no different. God performed a string of miracles that ensured their escape from Egypt (see Exodus chapters 6 to 12), but as soon as they made it into the desert and were finally free, they began grumbling and complaining. All the Israelites could think about was their current situation; Pharoah was in pursuit, and they were hemmed in by the Red Sea. Annihilation seemed imminent, and they had utterly forgotten God’s repeated promises to deliver them. They even went so far as to wish they were back in Egypt as enslaved people!
David, the writer of many songs to God, was also prone to forgetting God’s favour towards him. In Psalm 22, we observe his journey from forgetfulness and despair to remembrance and praise.
Perhaps it is understandable that we whine if the Israelites and David also complained so much.
Reflect: Are there situations where you are prone to complain and moan rather than trusting God?
Prayer: Father God, I am often quick to complain and slow to trust you. Please help me to see situations in the light of your promises to me. Amen.
About this Plan
In this Bible plan, be reminded of God’s goodness and learn from biblical characters who were also forgetful. God spoke to them and also wants to remind us of his faithfulness.
