Husband Study Challenge: A Plan for WivesSample
You could observe someone all day and still not know their biggest prayer requests because you won’t know what all is going on inside their head. Without knowing what someone thinks, you likely won’t know how to pray for them. And it might take some careful intentionality to hear your husband share what he’s thinking, but you can get some insights!
God knows that our thoughts matter, they matter a lot. It’s what’s in our thoughts and hearts that defile us and can consume us. Mark 7:20-23 shows the kind of sins that can come out of us and how these things start from within. Thankfully for us as believers, we have the power to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
What goes on in our minds impacts us a lot. How can you know your husband without knowing what’s on his mind?
Though God knows exactly what is on your husband’s mind every moment of every day, you do not. You are not a mind reader. But you can study what’s going on in your husband’s mind.
Here’s a pro tip, though: many men are better able to open up when also doing something active. A walk, playing catch, tossing a Frisbee to the dog together, or anything that lets the two of you move together can help him engage in conversation.
Be patient. Don’t force conversation. Engage in some simple activity together as you invite him to share by asking these questions and listening well.
- What are 3 things that really stress you out?
- What are the main stressors in your life right now?
- What do you tend to do when you are stressed out?
- What is something I could do to help you when you are stressed?
Then pray with your husband about these stressors. Ask God to help you two combat them and navigate them as a team.
Challenge: Engage in a simple activity with your husband and ask the questions above to understand his stressors. Be patient and listen well.
Prayer Challenge: Pray for him in these specific stressors. Ask “Is there anything you need from me?” then follow through.
