A Husband's Role in Marriage

DAY 7 OF 8

Be a Leader

Most places I have worked have a despised annual ritual—the year-end performance review. Employees hate to receive them, and managers hate to give them. Yet, for all the disdain associated with these reviews, they are an important part of the career-development process.

In preparation for these conversations, employers spend time evaluating performance, identifying deficiencies, and setting goals for their employees. Successful leaders use year-end conversations to create a roadmap with the end goal of teasing out the employee’s best.

While employers having development goals for their employees isn’t a foreign idea, most of us probably don’t realize how the role of a husband requires similar levels of strategic leadership.

When God came to punish Adam, He didn’t say his punishment was because “he ate the fruit.” No, it was because he listened to the voice of his wife and ate of the tree God commanded him not to eat. He became a follower when he should have been the leader.

God only gave Adam one rule. Now that sin has entered the world, the role of a husband is much more complicated.

Are you aware of how your spouse needs to grow? Do you know which character lessons your children need to learn? What can you do so that one day you will look back and see your wife looks more like Christ today than when you first met?

A husband submitted to the cause of Christ will see a vision for his family and make plans to help them get there.
