The 5 Bible Verses Missed or Misunderstood by 99% of ChristiansSample
Blessed Beyond Measure
Regardless of how you scored on our little quiz, let's review one final question about your standing with God:
Who does the Bible say we should consider blessed rather than the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus?
a) Moses & Elijah
b) The disciples (excluding Judas)
c) The Old Testament prophets
d) Those who obey God’s commands
Jesus Himself gives the answer:
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” – Luke 11:27-28
Let’s get this straight. A woman calls out to Jesus, acknowledging the blessedness of His mother - the virgin Mary. However, Jesus replies that those who hear God’s word and obey it are even more blessed than His mother.
Wow! Here’s Jesus saying that you & I are to be considered blessed rather than the Virgin Mary(!) if we hear God’s word and obey it.
Obedience is an essential theme throughout the Bible - remember the Israelites going into 70 years of captivity because of their disobedience?
So what does it mean to be obedient? And what does God really want from me?
Those are good questions and require more than a short answer. But, to help you get started, obedience means aligning our lives with God’s will and acting on it. Not just listening, but actively living out His commands - surrendering our lives to His authority and basing our decisions and actions on His Word.
