One Sided Marriage

DAY 2 OF 6

Honoring God

Now that you have put your one-sided marriage into God’s hands, what does God want you to do? I promise He does not want you to pick this burden back up again. What God wants is for your words, thoughts, and actions to honor Him!

Let’s see what that looks like. In a few words, it is doing what only you can do and trusting God with the rest. This is not going to be easy because you have been fighting this battle by yourself. It is kind of like shadow boxing. You have been wearing yourself out fighting for oneness in your marriage while your spouse (your shadow) is not the least bit tired.

One of today’s verses tells us to do all we do for God’s glory. Translating that into your marriage looks like living to honor God by continuing to grow and become who God created you to be. Then you will be the spouse God wants you to be and not lose who you are in the process.

Every day I want to be the best husband I can be to Nancy. Some days I do pretty well, and other days I do not. My point is my role as her husband is to love her like Christ loves the church. It doesn't matter what she does or does not do. I am to love her. I am to set the template of the Fruit of the Spirit over my marriage. I am to show her love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. That will honor God. That will show love.

Remember this. You cannot do that on your own. You cannot imitate Christ’s love on your own. It is letting Him work in and through you.

Today’s Challenge:

  • What does daily becoming more of who God created “you to be” mean to you?
  • Write down the Fruit of the Spirit and ask God to build those qualities into you!

About this Plan

One Sided Marriage

When one spouse has control but does little or nothing for the marriage, while the other spouse pours their time, emotion, effort, and energy into the marriage, we have a one-sided marriage. Join us in this five-day plan by Dr. Kim Kimberling to take a deep dive into what God says about marriage and how to deal with this issue in a way that honors Him.
