The Now Generation LeaderSample
Lead by Example
Now that we’ve covered how to respond to authority, it’s important to uncover how to lead the people around us.
Each person responds differently to leadership, but there are some concepts that work for everyone. For example, people want to be understood, treated with respect, and listened to.
The best way to lead people is to remind yourself of the qualities you want to see from the people leading you. Be the leader you want to follow. Take time to invest in the lives you’re leading. People won’t follow a leader who doesn’t care about them.
Another key thing to remember as a young leader is you must lead by example. What does that look like? It could be taking time to ask someone how they’re doing, showing dedication toward a project, or having a positive attitude. You can practice leading by example in every area of your life. If you have younger siblings, show them what it’s like to take responsibility around the house. If you’re leading a group at school or church, go the extra mile by helping someone else with their workload.
The moment you let power make you feel superior is the moment will you lose the potential for friendships, new ideas, and success within your life and job.
Challenge: A leader will encourage and invest in the people around them. Ask two people about their weekend today.
About this Plan
As a young adult, you are not the leader of tomorrow. You are the leader of today. In this 14-day plan, the Life.Church LeadershipXP team will provide practical, biblical advice to help young leaders develop into the leader Christ has created them to be. Each day includes a practical challenge aimed to help put what you learn through your reading into practice.
