Called to be ‘One’

Did you know that every person who has surrendered his or her life to Christ becomes a part of the body of Christ or a member of the church? And just as in the human body there are different parts like the eye, the toe, the knee and so on, so also in the church there are different types of people or members. Each member is given a gift or a skill and is called to function accordingly. Some are called to preach, some to sing or play a musical instrument and some to serve. Every member is valuable and important for the church or the body of Christ to function well.

In a human body, if the knee was injured or the arm was paralyzed, the whole bodily functioning would suffer. Likewise, in the church, the person who cleans the chairs is as valuable and important as the one who preaches or the one who helps someone else get to church.
God has called us to function in love, unity and agreement. When this happens, God showers blessings upon us and the church grows. God’s people become attractive to those who don’t know Christ and more members are added to the church.
Today, evaluate your contribution to the church you go to. Are you a blessing to the pastor, the leadership and the rest of the church?

Father, You have called me to be a blessing and an important member of the church of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May I be an even greater help and blessing from this moment onwards. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
