Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
Speak Up
Most people think that the ‘ideal woman’ in the Bible is entirely domestic, passive and has the ability only to be a homemaker. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Proverbs 31 has a lot to say about a godly woman. It gives you a picture of a woman with great wisdom, compassion and godly character.
Many years ago, soon after the birth of our third child, I went through depression. The doctor gave up on me and even called me a ‘foolish woman’. Electric shock treatment, he said, was the only way out for me. The judgment he passed on me only worsened my condition. But God intervened. It was then that the precious Holy Spirit led me to Proverbs 31. As I studied the Scriptures, faith rose within me to believe what God’s Word said about me, and not the doctor’s word. I kept declaring that I am a virtuous woman and a blessed wife and mother. My husband and children call me blessed! At that very moment, I was instantaneously healed without shock treatment or even medication. Thereafter, God blessed us with yet another child.
It’s time for us to be who God says we are; not what society says we must be. Besides being an excellent wife and mother, a godly woman is also concerned about others. She looks after her own affairs, and manages her household well. She also speaks up for the poor and those who are unable to speak for themselves. She is a voice for those who are left desolate and defenseless. She stands for the truth and defends the poor and weak in a society that favors the rich, the famous and the mighty. She does not remain silent in the face of injustice, violence and inequality.
Don’t settle for a man-made picture of your role. Step into all that God has for you!
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word, which empowers us to be Your voice in this generation. Let me never be silent in the face of injustice and inequality. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
