Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
Don’t Stop Praying!
Just the other day, a friend sent me a message asking me to pray for a problem she faced at work. The good person that I am, I immediately started praying for her, till I suddenly stopped to ask God a more important question – why am I interceding for her? He already knows the problem. He even has a solution. He knows her. He loves her. Then why am I reminding God about her and the problem?
As I kept on thinking, I realized that prayer is a dialogue with God. Constantly communing with God brings us closer to Him. Even when we pray for ourselves, we become more intimate with Him, because we lay our heart and mind bare, with all true intentions and motives. We are able to work on the vertical relationship with our Father and make it grow to a higher level. He doesn’t need a reminder of the problem. All He wants and loves is a dialogue with His beloved.
Praying for others also comes with blessings. As we pray for others, our love and bond with them grows stronger, because we empathize with their pain. This is how we can love our neighbor as ourselves. When our vertical bond is strong, the desire to pray for others will increase and as a result horizontal bonds with each other will be strengthened in spirit. When we intercede for others our love for them also increases. We are able to seek God on behalf of our neighbors, and stand in the gap for them when they are in great need. So, it’s not about reminding God of His duty; it’s about loving your neighbor. And isn’t that one of the greatest commandments?
Prayer
Father God, fill me with a desire to constantly commune with You and pray for all those around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
