Raising a Godly Generation

God’s love for us is the most sacrificial love that one can encounter in life. In our human relationships, it becomes difficult to express the same level of love. However, when we become parents, it is almost as if the scales fall off. For the first time in our lives, we understand what it means to love unconditionally and we get a glimpse into the Father’s heart.
As parents, God has called us to not only raise our children in a godly manner but to also love them with understanding, compassion and grace. We are commanded not to provoke them. We often see in our children the reflections of our personality traits which we have never been able to accept and have made us feel inadequate. In our helplessness, we tend to provoke and deal harshly with our children to initiate change in them. However, we need to understand that children are born with dignity, and it is very crucial that this dignity is respected. When correcting them, it is imperative that we don’t cross this line. When children start experiencing hopelessness, shame and a loss of dignity, they begin to show signs of rebellious behavior.
For our children to respond in love, it is important that we ourselves show grace, compassion, courtesy and raise them with instructions that come from the Lord, not our human ego and intellect. God, in His grace and mercy, will turn their hearts towards us and will enable us to raise a godly generation of children, whose hearts will be set on Him, who will serve Him and will truly be our reward.

Father, enable us to raise a godly generation that will do great exploits in Your name. Amen.
