An Appointment with Jesus

Zacchaeus was a short man and a tax collector, who had gotten rich on tax payers’ money. When he heard about all that Jesus had been doing, he wanted to see if the rumors were true. But he knew it was going to be hard to get past the crowds of people following Jesus, especially because many of them didn’t like him at all. So guess what he did: he climbed up a tree to see Jesus.
Zacchaeus was just a curious person, who wanted to know who this teacher was that the people talked about. He wasn’t a sick man in need of a miracle or a poor person who needed to be fed.
As Jesus walked by, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house”. Zacchaeus wasn’t trying to get Jesus’ attention; he was just a spectator, yet Jesus took notice of him. That day, salvation came to Zacchaeus’ home after he responded to Jesus’ offer to come to his house. At the table, Zacchaeus saw himself for the first time; a sinner badly in need of a Savior. He opened up to Jesus and offered to make restitution to all he had cheated or deceived. Jesus’ response? “Salvation has come to this house today!”
Today, who is the Zacchaeus you know who needs salvation? It may be a boss who is highly successful, or a relative who seems to have it all together; but they all need Jesus. Isn’t it time we introduce them to Him? It’s okay if they come to church just to observe us or even to criticize us. Jesus wants to meet with them anyway. He will show up at the door of their heart and they will not be able to refuse!

Prayer
Father God, I ask that You would help me reach out to the people I know, who are in need of salvation. I pray that as I tell them the good news, You would visit them and change their lives forever. Amen.
