Overcoming FearSample
We’re Better Together
Today’s passage is from a “psalm of ascent”—one of the psalms people sang together as they walked up the hills toward the temple in Jerusalem to offer sacrifices and worship. During this holy walk, they would acknowledge their help came only from God—the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Whether thousands of years ago or today, human beings experience difficulties and fear the future.
Today our forms of worship are different, but it is still important for the people of God to worship together and remind each other that our help comes from God. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." Alone, we often focus on our fears, but together, we can “stir up” love and encouragement. What are some ways you can exhort someone else in your life as you look upward to God for His help?
● What is God saying to me?
● What does it mean to me?
● How can I apply what God is teaching me?
● How can I be specific in prayer today?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
