Honor the Wise

Long life and the blessing of children are universally valued, so it is no surprise that grandchildren are the crown to the elderly. It is an honor to grow old enough to see your grandchildren; to see your legacy continue and to see them serve the Lord. It is an honor to pass down an inheritance of godly wisdom.

The surprise of this verse comes with the statement, “parents are the pride of their children.” This is unique in many cultures since children often see their aging parents as a burden, rather than a blessing. But the psalmist reinforces the ideal that parents be the pride of children. It is an honor for children to have wise and godly parents. Parents are to be respected, cared for, and valued.

When a family is living for God, each generation is proud of the others. The young bring joy to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
