Being Challenge Kids: An 11-Day Challenge to Be Like JesusSample
Introduction
Eloise needed to erase a pencil mark on her picture, but none of her pencils had erasers anymore. She had chewed them all off. Eloise wasn’t swallowing them, of course. It just felt good to bite them off. Afterward, she would spit the bits of eraser into the trash.
If you find yourself chewing things without even thinking, it’s a habit in your life. Habits are things you do, think, or say, without thinking about it beforehand, like biting pencil erasers. Habits happen naturally and not all habits are bad. Many people have been able to accomplish great things because of their habits.
In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Michael Phelps used habits to win the gold medal even when his goggles came loose and filled up with water.
Most known for his series on Captain Underpants, Author Dav Pilkey kept drawing and writing even when his teachers told him he wouldn’t amount to anything if he kept making up silly stories.
Katherine Johnson’s love of numbers helped her make incredible calculations. As a result, she worked at NASA to help many famous astronauts complete their missions.
The most extraordinary man to ever walk the earth was Jesus, and we learn from the Bible that He had habits in His own life as well. These habits helped him connect with God the Father, serve others, and accomplish his mission to save the world.
In this study, you will learn about the five habits Jesus practiced that helped Him connect to God the Father in their relationship. You will also learn how to create these same habits in your life. Those five habits are:
- Forming friendships
- Study Scripture
- Pause to Pray
- Stop for Solitude
- Choose Church
Sometimes we get so focused on quitting our bad habits that we forget to try new routines instead. For example, it’s very typical for kids to chew on things. Some kids might chew as a stress relief, since it can calm them down to have something in their mouth. It may be hard to quit a habit like biting your nails, so instead, try a new habit in your life, like completing this plan! One of the best ways to kick old bad habits is to form new habits.
Challenge: Ask a friend or family member to join you on this challenge (You’re 90% more likely to finish it if you have someone to do it with you!)
